Installing OS X 10.4 from ISO image?

So I had a dilemma last week where I'm trying to help a friend reinstall OS X 10.4 on his G4 MDD tower.
I felt obligated to help with his issues because I sold him the tower about a year ago.

Problem was, the Tiger install disk was damaged (looks like some type of heat of water mark.) So I had someone kind enough to burn a copy of a Tiger DVD (thanks John!) as a backup.

Problem is, the I have is just an ISO image of Tiger. I can mount the image when I have the computer on and see the installer, but when I reboot the computer as it asks me to do, it just takes me back to the desktop.

How do you get the computer to see/mount the ISO image when it's re-booting so that the OS can be installed?

Burn it to a disc, that's the easiest remedy I can think of.

That's the problem. It is already on a DVD. It's just an ISO image of Tiger on a DVD.

My problem is, how do I get the computer to install OS X from the ISO image?
Is it not possible to boot from the image?

You need to take the .ISO file and burn it to a DVD.

This will make the .ISO file bootable, which is what you need.

You can do this on a PC using a .ISO burning program, or on a Mac using Toast.

So say, just dragging the ISO image to the desktop and then burning it to another DVD using Disk Utility won't do the same thing?

Or will doing that just basically make a copy of the disk I already have?

My wife has a Windows PC, so I'll also look into burning a disk with an iso program.

To be honest, I've never burnt a .ISO file with Disk Utility, if you are going to do it on the PC, download an app called Imgburn - it's freeware and burns ISO's pefrect.

You can download Burn which is Free for OSX. It will work the same way as the PC program you are used to. Disk Utility will do it but if you are more comfortable with an application, download Burn.

Or you can just use Disk Utility.
