In software update I downloaded the 300+MB security update and when it was finished it wouldn't install. The following info:

"Installation had Errors"

"The following install step failed: run preinstall script for Mac OS XUPD 1.0.5.6. Contact software mfg. for assistance".

I then downloaded the update from Version Tracker and the same message I received that the install failed. I have version 1.0.5.5. It's a 20" alum iMac and I haven't had a problem with other security updates prior to this. Any sane way to correct this before I call Apple support? This is my first Mac so if there is a solution make me simple for me. I verified and repair disk permissions. Thanks for a reply.

I just installed the 10.5.6 update this afternoon without a hitch. Boot your iMac with your Leopard install DVD disk 1 and run First Aid. From the top menu choose Disk Utility and verify the disk. You may have disk errors or file errors which could prevent the update from installing.

Regards.

Manowar that is a confirmed "issue." I say issue because Apple pry did it on purpose.

Breaking: 10.5.6 update disables direct iPhone Pwnage jailbreak

Hold on! Maybe that's why my iPod Touch won't recharge since the 10.6 update. I had to charge it in my dock last night.

After the update I can't get my iPod Touch into DFU mode. :(

If you use a USB hub instead of plugging in directly to your mac's USB, DFU will work fine.

I'm having an issue with updating from OS 10.5.5 to 10.5.6. When it restarts, it gets to the "Configuring System" screen, but then seems to freeze. I wait 1-2 hours to make sure, and then do a hard restart.

Any help? Or do I need to do the update to 10.5.6?

Well to solve my original problem I had to do an archive and install and then was able to download and install 1.0.5.6 without a problem. When I called tech support they seemed like they had never heard about the problem I had.
