My iMovie slideshow looks great until i use iDVD

I hope you can help. I made a 12 minute slideshow in iMovie '08 and the pictures look great. However when I burn it to a DVD using iDVD the images look significantly worse. It is like the difference between watching an HD tv channel and a Non-HD tv channel.

My question is... is it possible to burn an iMovie slideshow onto a DVD and have the final product look as clear as it did in iMovie? I am watching both the imovie and the dvd on my 13'' MacBook.

I assume it has to do with how I am "sharing" my movie. I did get better results when I shared to QuickTime compared to when I shared to the Media Browser. When I share to Quicktime, I don't know anything about the custom settings, I just use the defaults. I was hoping someone may be able to steer me in the right direction.

Maybe it is not possible to get the same quality? Please Help!

I have the same experience. The quality diminishes as it is transferred to another medium. The same is true for videos that I took using miniDV camcorders. It will be interesting to receive feedback on this from the forum.

Jhunt012, we would need to know how you are exporting the video. Size, codec, etc. Keep in mind that DVD size is much smaller, so if you are expanding the picture on a computer monitor or HD TV, then the quality will suck for sure. I have a guide for exporting using QuickTime.

By the way, iPhoto seems to do better with stills, in my opinion anyway, but has export limitations.

Greetings.

I thought that I'd read about this problem. And lo and behold. David Pogue comes to the rescue once again.

Now this fix applies to iMovie 6 and iDVD and at a guess, it should work with later versions....

When you share with iDVD, iMovie make a poor job of rendering the pics. If you turn your photos into digital video clips, iMovie doesn't get in the way when you share.

To do that, turn on the Ken Burns effect. You are left with a very high quality 'still' video clip that iMovie won't attempt to process when you share with iDVD. You will see your photos in all their pristine glory.
