blu ray network setup

I recently bought a panasonic blu ray player. I also bought a d-link gaming adapter to attempt to setup the network on the blu ray player. I have a broadband cable modem to Airport extreme to Imac setup in another room, as well as a macbook which connects wirelessly. I have no idea what I'm doing. When I plug in the ethernet cable to the blu ray player from the adapter, I get nothing. I know your supposed to configure the adapter connected to your computer first, I'm just not sure how. Any one have experience with this?
