Excessive incoming messages

When I open my .mac email I get 2491 incoming messages. Haven't a clue where they are coming from. They don't show up in the inbox or anywhere's else. If I quit the email and open it back up. The same 2491 messages start coming in again. It's happened 3 times today. Anyone have a clue as to what's going. I've had m mac for about 18 months ago and this just started happening about 2 weeks ago.

did you ever get this resolved? I am getting the same thing on a brand new macbook that I got for my wife. I setup her yahoo account in mail. When I opened mail the first time it downloaded a bunch of emails which I thought was probably ok but now everytime I open mail it still tries to download 1400+ emails.... at this point it is basically difficult to even use the mail app because of this... (it feels like it freezes the system).

If you've set Mail up to use POP access, it'll try to download the entire content of the mail account... that could potentially be a lot of mails!

Gmail has setting available through the webmail interface that will let you specify which mails POP clients should download - check Yahoo for similar settings!

Or better yet use IMAP if Yahoo mail supports it! (Gmail does for free)
