I've seen a few threads with screen shots of peoples desktops with notes on the desktop, and now I come to need a note don't know where to go!

I found the stickies application, but it doesn't appear to be able to stay open on the desktop? i.e. when using cmd+F3 for desktop it disappears along with everything I want to disappear!

May not be what you want - I don't use stickies - but I did find a great note taking app called SideNote.

It attaches to either side of the screen. It's great for quickie notes. Have it set to launch at start up, so it's always there, ready when I am. Saves me from having to open TextEdit all the time for that kind of stuff.

You could try going to the dashboard, putting a sticky note onto the screen. Then click and hold onto it and press F12 to get out of the dashboard. It should then appear on the main desktop screen. Let go and it should stay there.

The only problem is, it doesn't hide behind applications...

If you ever want to get rid of it, just click and hold onto it again, and press F12. Then let go. It will then stay in the dashboard.

Hope this helps.

My 'stickies' stay open on the desktop and I've not done anything special - just make sure that you have the app open (I have it open at login) and stays open in the dock. I only discovered it a couple of weeks ago and it's a boon.

Thanks for the extra replies guys, though I'm going to go with sidenote I think.
