I just bought a powerbook G4 on which I got a great deal (ob ebay, in my city), but, though intermittent, aperently it has inverter board problems. I can easily buy a new powerboog g4 15" (its the 1.5 ghz model) inverter boasrd for around 30$, but I need to know how to instill it. I'm told that it requires a lot of disassembly. Or where could I take it to have it fixed for a reasonable price?
-thx

Is there any way to access the inverter board (in the hinge part) without taking the computer apart very much. I don't want to have to remove the entire display, which is a relatively long process.

The guide you want is the one which deals with the display. As far as I know, you won't be able to access the inverter board without removing the display. I'm sure someone has found a different way, but for safety sake it's best to follow the guide even though it's a lengthy process.

As far as taking it to a local computer guy, unless he's experienced with working on Mac notebook computers I wouldn't let him get near it.

Regards.

Well, the computer guy can't be any less experienced than me and a mac specialist would probably make the deal no longer so sweet (it also came with leo and cs4, other software and a mighty mouse), but I am being "apprenticed" (like I occasionally work for my local computer guy for free to learn about computers and stuff) to my computer guy. I think he could just do a better job following the guide than me, but I'm not sure if he has any proper mac experience.

The part should be arriving mid next week. If I fix it all it will have only cost me 275$ CDN for the best powerbook g4 and all the above stuff.

I guess I'll probably ust take the thing to the store and do the guide stuff with the computer guy.

...It's pretty easy and straightforward man. If you're familiar taking laptops apart, you'll have no problem with the inverter board. Just approach it with confidence.
