free disc space

help! my startup disc says free space of 45 GB out of the 148GB, but when i add up all the used capacity it comes to only 60 GB. how to find out what has taken up the 40 GB space?

Try using an App called ONYX that should help

Enjoi is right, I switched from Mac Keeper to ONYX and it is much more efficient!!!!!

Too many to list. Typically use an Intel iMac for most of my stuff and a Mini for web video.
Empty the trash! ;)

Onyx is a great program. I have used it often myself but in this case I think I would start with WhatSize as ChsCag suggested. Onyx will get rid of useless cruft and unnecessary log files easily but the files it finds easily are not going to add up to 40 GB of space.
