• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm wondering what the best Dual Layer DVD's are. Most of the post's I find on this topic are a few years old, and obvious alot has changed. Do any work better w/ Macbook Pro?

I've been editing videos for people and alot of them have been over 4.7gb. So usually I compress them. But I'm thinking about using Dual Layer so I dont have to do that.

Is there a reason why Dual Layer isn't all that popular? I can't find all that much information on them. Is it simply because people don't use it? Or is it because there are problems burning, or playing in DVD players? Do you think it's safer to simply compress them to a normal DVD or should they work in all current players?

Dual Layer is to do with the storing capability of the media rather than a system. For example if you are using Leopard and want to make a backup copy of your disc for everyday use, must be DL as the original leopard disc is DL.

And of course the DL media is much, much dearer than standard.
