Thanks Ian.
I'll be getting a 50mm lens next month.
I've just spent way too much this month.
My buddies got a D80 already and we've been learning together. And I have to say the D40 is easier from the start but I'm now at the point where I can make the decisions myself.

A couple fo friends have asled me to shoot their weddings. I'm really worried about it. You only get 1 chance for the shots and then it's too late.
So I was thinking the 50mm may help in the low light inside.

Main camera is a Canon XTi, and the throw in a pocket on days I don't want to carry something heavy is a Nikon S550.

The 50mm will definitely help with the portrait shots especially in low light. A bounce flash would also definitely be a good investment.

I would head over to the Wedding forum in Nikonians.org and read up on what advice others have given, it's a great help. I'm always reading up on various forums on that site.

Here's a direct link to the Wedding forum

Also, if you haven't already, get used to using Aperture priority and setting ISO so that your shutter speed will be above 1/50th.

I bought a 450D just before Christmas, it's my first DSLR (although I have had experience using DSLR's before) and I must say it's awesome!

I use a Panasonic DMC-FZ8. Purchased it Summer 2007.

Really nice to use: 7MP, RAW Mode, Full Manual mode etc, excellent 12x Optical Zoom and I like how if you set it to 3MP you get 18x optical zoom.

I have recently just bought my first DSLR camera. An Olympus E520. It is awesome and my photography skills have increased already. So much still to learn though.

Yes, yes, and yes. :) D90 sounds like a great camera, I have the D80 and I personally love it. Would I trade-up to a D90? Not necessarily, but if I didn't have a DSLR I would get a D90.

Depending on your skill set, and what you'd eventually like to be able to do with your DSLR, you could save a few bucks and get the D40(or D40x).

I personally can't live without the LCD display on the top of the camera and find the D40 on screen menu for changing settings (aperture, shutter, EV, etc...) a little too cumbersome, and hurts my night vision in the dark when I'm setting up for timed exposures.

Hope this helps. :D

Sooper Fast!
Only had my mac a few weeks but very, very happy with the way it handles the large images and Canon Digital Photo Professional

Ha ha...large. I've had my 5D MKII for less than a month and in the local photo folder on my computer that has shoots going back to September the total size is 26gb. I removed all but the 6 or so 5D MKII folder and I was still left with a 16gb folder...

Prob a dumb question, but how are you liking the MKII? I bet the output is amazing. I had the MKI and it produced some of my favorite images. I also loved some of the lenses I had with it. Especially the 35L, 135L, and 70-200F4IS.

I started Nikon years ago and tried Canon for about two months. Couldn't break my old habits, so I'm back shooting a D700. My favorites now are the Sigma 50 1.4 and 105DC F2.

Besides the LCD, the D90 would give you the option to use some of the older AF-D lenses with autofocus. The D40/60 series requires AF-S(built in motor).
