macbook won't start!

My macbook won't startup, and it shuts itself down. i have some important files on my macbook, but if i have to do a system restore, then it is what it is.

that is the problem i am having. i have ran the disk utilities and attempted to verify the disk, and the permissions. I do not have the option to repair the disk or repair the disk permissions because the buttons are not click-able.

when i ran the verify disk this is what it said:
"checking journaled HFS Plus volume.
Checking extents overflow file.
checking catalog file
invalid node structure
volume check failed
error: filesystem verify or repair failed"

this is really stressing me out because i am in college and have some classes online..i would really like to be able to access my files and not have to use a friends computer.

For certain problems you can not repair a disk while it's mounted. Try running Disk Utility from your install disk instead:

Boot the machine with your install disk one. Cancel out the installation of OS X and use the menu at the top of the screen to run First Aid. From there you can run verify and repair. Because the hard drive is not in use (mounted) it should be able to repair any bad sectors or file problems.

If problems are serious enough that they can't be repaired while booted from the install disk, your hard drive may be bad.

thanks...but i have already done what you mentioned above..that is where i received the errors. i will give the link you referred to a try, maybe i will find my answer there.

well when that happend to me my hard drive had crashed. take to the genius bar and they will check it nd if your lucky like me there replace it with a bigger one because its instock. but only if u have apple care

It seems that your HD is dead, dude. You can replace it by yourself (see iFixit: iPod, iBook, & PowerBook Parts and Accessories for more details) and send the HD to some specialist to save your data (you're going to spend around 100 dollars for this service, I guess). Or you can go to the Genius (more money, I guess). A new HD costs around 60 dollars (here the best website I ever saw for Mac: impossible to buy the wrong one: Hard Drives for SATA, IDE, ATA - Notebook Hard Drives, Desktop Hard Drives, Internal and External Options with FireWire, USB2, eSATA and more at OtherWorldComputing.com ) depending on the capacity. My suggestion: if your warranty is still on, go to the shop. If not, and you have little money, buy it by yourself and replace it following the ifixit instructions: I replace my PowerBook 12 HD and it was REALLY simple. Just follow the instruction CAREFULLY.
