Hi all.
First post here, just hoping I could get some advice really before I go ahead and splash out on a new setup.
Ok, so. My 5 year old desktop PC just doesn't cut it anymore. After using Macs at college for the past two years I came to realise that, simply.
They just work! I always felt more efficient on OS X even though I'm more familiar with Windows, I have decided to get a Mac as it's more suited to my needs and I feel more organised and 'clean' using one. Might sound a bit silly but I'm sure some of you mac-lovers will know what I mean.
I don't really play any games any more, I need something like an all-in-one creative suite. I mostly do design work but also want to make some music, surf the web, play music, watch stuff, etc.
I would need it to be able to run these programs competently, and often two or more at once without slowing down to a grinding halt like my current PC.
And a few other related programs.
It has been suggested I get a G5, I've not quite settled on what core speed to go with. I'm hoping that's something you could advise me on.
Now, I'm not expecting it to be future-proof, nothing is. I just don't want to buy it and have to upgrade again within 2 years really.
My budget for the desktop itself is about £600. I also want a new monitor as my 19" beige CRT is an eyesore and not quite big enough. Which brings me on to my next question.
This area I don't know much about and I admit I haven't done much research into. Will I be restricted in what monitors I can use with it? Only certain outputs or anything like that?
Anything else I should consider before I go ahead with a purchase next week sometime (hopefully). It has also been suggested that I wait a bit longer and save a bit more for the new Power Mac line due to be released 'soonish'.
I have been wanting to buy a new computer for a long time but just haven't had the money. I'm not particularly impatient but my work and efficiency is suffering due to my current situation. So you can understand why I'm wanting to upgrade asap.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
