I am new to this group, and very new to G5's,

I need to know what I need that will do the best job! In the next few
month I will be buying a new G5, I will be mainly be using the mac for
my small business which I will be doing video editing, photo editing,
and rendering needs as well as everyday uses.

For video editing I will be using Final Cut HD, and for photo editing
I will use Adobe photoshop, and for graphics iMotion,

- The question I am really asking is, do need dual processor or can I
just stick to a single processor with minimum 1GigRam. will the single
processor be able to deal with all of the rendering?

Question two.

I am hoping to buy this from my local Mac dealer, I asked him if he
would be able to lower the price on the mac he said that he gets the
price from Apple and they can't lower the price as they only make a
very small mark up on Mac's around 5% is that true, this is from a Mac
dealer in Canada, Ontario,

Look forward to hearing your repsonses.

Thanks Adam

1. I have no doubt that the single processor with 1 gig will be able to to the job...not as fast and smooth as the dual with 1 gig probably, but it will be able to do it if you need to keep your costs low as possible. Just kind of depends on the volume of work you will be doing. Small to medium you might get by with the lower unit, high volume and you would probably be better off with one of the duals with maybe 2 gig.

2. I really don't know much about Apples pricing other than they are high and have always been so, because of basicly a closed shop. As for the knowledge that comes from a dealer, kind of reminds me of the car dealers who will give you a new car at "below his cost"...

About the cost, i think they guy is telling you the truth. My friend works at Bestbuy and as an employe he gets to buy everything that the store sells at cost. this means he pays what the store pays. He bought an ipod and saved like $5 or something very small like that, but when he looked at the assesories he saved like 40% or more, so thats where retailers make their money, not on the PCs or iPods, on the extras

The single processor should be fine for your needs, but get the dual if you can. It will last quite a bit longer.

The pricing thing is right. You just can't bargain over Apple products.

I just purchased the system in my sig last week. The only way I was able to get any sort of deal was by being a student. That saved me around $400. Order from the education site...all they ask for is what school your currently attending...make something up ;)
