Possible Macbook Pro ScreenBurn

Hi,

I purchased a macbook pro last month (the previous generation, not the new unibody ones.). Just yesterday I noticed dark bands extending from the bottom of the screen to the top and they are a complete distraction. Here is a pic of the bands:

Has this happened to anyone before? apple.com says that this product is covered till 2009 Aug under warranty. What would be the usual response in this situation? I use my MBP to take notes / code / do everything and it would be a pain to be separated from it.

It's not screen burn-in. But there is a problem. Call Apple tech, they may have seen it before and have an easy fix. Never know.

It is not burn in, you have an LED backlight screen.

My 17 used to do that from time to time if it got too hot, like on occasions when I would close it and put it in my bag, only to learn 2 hours later it was still running, never went to sleep.

Usually I could just turn it off for a minute andwhen it came back on, the screen was normal again. If that does not solve it for you, I would call Apple.

Looks like a problem with the LED backlighting. I would schedule a Genius bar appointment at an Apple Store. If they have the parts in stock, they should be able to repair it for you on the same day.

Bands disappeared

I tried ViriiGuy's method (turning off the lappy for a short while and it worked). I too have the habit of just closing the lid and putting the MBP in my bag. I guess I know how to handle it now.

I'd still get this addressed within the warranty period as it's clearly a sign of faulty hardware.
