can't remove Linux partitions

I installed Ubuntu with Boot Camp, and I wanted to remove it, but Boot Camp said the partitions weren't the right kind or something. I tried messing around with Disk Utility, but I can't figure out what to do. Can anyone help me get my disk back to one partition?

Did you try to use the Boot Camp assistant from OS X? Just select create partition, then select restore. If it refuses to restore the drive back to 100 % OS X, you'll have to use Disk Utility.

Boot with your Leopard install DVD disk one and select Disk Utility from the menu. Highlight the Boot Camp partition (Ubuntu) and select erase. You should then be able to merge the now erased partition into the remainder of the Macintosh HD. DO NOT erase or format your Macintosh HD!

I suggest making a complete backup of everything before you start. Use Time Machine or some other backup program.

Is it necessary to use Disk Utility from the OS X install disc? Why can't I just use it while OS X is running.

I tried running Disk Utility from the OS X install disc, and it didn't work. When I click the '-' button and click 'remove', it starts to prepare to remove it, but it hangs there. Is there a third party partitioning program that I can use to fix this?

I figured it out, and I'm posting the answer because I saw that other people were having this problem as well. I took a Fedora install disc and formatted all my Linux partitions into one ext2 partition. After the partition was formatted, I reset my computer. I opened Disk Utility in OS X, and there was only the OS X partition and some free space. I just dragged the OS X partition all the way down and hit apply. I hope this helps someone.
