Using iTunes with external HDD

Hey,

I was told it is possible to link iTunes to an external device and sync through that. Basically i don't want all my music and vids clogging up my macs Hard Drive...

I have got up to this point...

But... This has left my library empty and i get this...

And yes the external HDD is currently plugged in :D
Any help would be appreciated :)

you move the library to external HD, then in iTunes prefefs go to advanced and change the location

Thats the first thing i done, but that doesn't seem to wanna work.

Its been a long time since, but thats how I have my setup. The upside is not bogging down your main drive makes your computer run faster, and you can unplug and go with your library. On the downside if you don't use your drive for a while it will turn off and when you go to itunes it will takes 4-5 seconds to wake the drive up. A minor nuisance if you're the kind of guy that is particular about things.
