I am new to Macs and was wondering if it is worth the $$ to purchase Anti-virus software and which one. I have not been very happy with Norton or McAfee on my PCs so any other suggestions?

You don't need anti-virus software on a Mac. Or adware/spyware removers.

There are no viruses, no trojans, and no spyware infections.

I'm dead serious.

Just to clarify:

You don't need virus protection to protect your mac from the pc's on your network - the mac can't be harmed by common windows viruses.

But if you are on a network with other PC's, you might unknowingly pick up pc viruses that you might transfer to other pc's.

EXAMPLE:

Let's say you get a funny mail that is actually a virus. It doesn't do anything to your mac as it can't. But you send it to all your friends, accidently infecting their PC's.

That's the only reason to even consider buying anti-virus software for mac...

As a programmer, I should make a macintosh Antivirus that does nothing. I could have it update and do nothing but increment the version number.

Nobody patent my idea!
