Boot the machine with your Tiger DVD disk one. Select Disk Utility, highlight the Macintosh HD volume, and select Verify.

Note: When running Disk Utility direct from the HD, it can not be dismounted in order to do repairs, hence, the need to run Verify from the Tiger DVD.

If that doesn't work for you, post back and we'll show you how to do the Verify from the command line. (Terminal)

Regards.

And for the PPC iMac G5, boot from install DVD means to pop the DVD in, go to restart and hold down 'C' from the time the chime sounds until the gear wheel commences and the machine will then be running from the DVD, and as chscag says go to Utilities in the menu bar, select disk utility and select the drive and hit the repair disk button .

Hopefully all will be well!
