ibook display

is it possible to buy an extra ibook display thats been removed from the ibook and use it as a second display on an other ibook? So that you have two displays the exact same except one is actually hooked to the harddrive??

Wow.. That's confusing. So what you want to do is use an iBook With two iBooks displays? I don't think you can do that if thats what you mean. But you can get a second monitor... (DVI or VGA)

Yeah sorry if it sounded confusing. I was just thinking if I removed a display from one ibook could I use it as a second display for my other ibook somehow. I didn't think it was possible but I thought there might be something out there that could make it possible. Thanks

While you guys are on the subject i'll chip in with a question thats been bugging me.

Can the display from an iBook(or anylaptop for that matter) be used as a display for another computer. Would be good if i could make some use of iBook when it dies.

sounds like it would be a real big hassle and expensive to boot..because you would need to find another ibook(unlessyou already have 2)

i thought that iBooks can only mirror displays, so wont you just have two of the same thing sitting right in front of yoU!?

There are alternatives such as the screen spanning hack that allows the Ibook to use two monitor to make one large screen.

I have two ibooks but one doesnt work so I thought if it was possible Id remove the monitor from the non working ibook and place it on the wall and get it to someone how plug into my new ibook. But I dont think Ill have any luck.

It must be possible, genrally tft screens/lcd monitors have aound 20 cables entering them, 15 for colour/gamma/vertical and horizontal information the rest are power/voltage related. Not sure if it would be cost effective to do this. Companies that specialise in fabricated video walls may be able to help you out with this. Theres are large company in London that does this sort of thing, i'll try find the name or an email address if you wish.

As for the mirroring this could be changed using Screen Spanning Doctor.

Well I was kind of hoping I could do something myself, buy some somehow integrate into a plug in monitor but that could be immpossible or very costly.

Well basically the iBook's LCD is just a regular lcd monitor... just with special connectors that hook up directly to the motherboard/graphics card right?

Well, theoretically you should just be able to make/buy some kind of adapter that makes the connectors compatible with a VGA/DVI port...
