Trying to Network with Vista

I'm trying to network my macbook to my Vista desktop. I'm using a Netgear wireless router throughout the house and can connect Vista to Mac but not Mac to Vista. There is a second PC in the house I can connect with from my Mac, but the need is to be able to network with the Vista PC (blasted Vista! I'm about ready to toss the whole desktop and work solely from my macbook. Only reason I still use it is because my DVD drive on my macbook doesn't seem to want to burn about 4.0x). I've turned off the firewall on the PC, but nothing seems to work. My macbook sees the PC, but when it goes to connect, it times out. Any suggestions?
