Secure Empty Trash?

I was wondering what the difference between emptying the trash and securely emptying it is. I know securely emptying seems to take longer, but what's the difference?

Way... way too many specs to list.
Secure empty actually overwrites a 0 and 1 pattern over the data (in 7 passes if I remember correctly), rather than simply removing the pointer to the data

If the data you are deleting would be considered confidential, yes. You can always choose to empty securely on a case by case basis
