It's getting to that point where I would like to format my computer... I've done it once before (when I moved from Tiger to Leopard) and it was, well, simple. This time however, I'd really prefer not to have to install all my applications again. Is there any way I can wipe everything from my Mac, do a fresh install but keep a number of applications installed?

Archive and Install. Not a "wipe everything", but the OS will be updated, meanwhile preserving all the applications and files you have installed/created.

Be aware that a Previous System folder will be created, thus reducing your HD storage capacity. Once you're satisfied that the new OS is doing its thing properly, you can safely delete the PS folder.
