Network and Hard Drive Help...

I work in a small design studio, two users, two macs. Currently, we have all the data stored on one mac with the other mac linked to it to access the files. The data is backed up sporadically to an external hard drive.

We want to make the system a little more robust and reliable. We are looking to store all the data on a central hard drive (in order to free up space on the mac storing all the files). We want to have both macs - and maybe a third mac – linked to the hard drive so the files can be accessed easily and open the data from that location. We'd want to be able to back up on a daily basis and take a copy of the files out of the office in the evening.

Can anyone recommend a setup that is effective?
