HELP! ibook G4 wont boot up

Hey i've been reading the forums but i have a specific problem..

my laptop was having various power and video issues so i tried to reset the pram thing.. but pressed hte wrong buttons and pressed ctrl-command-p-r
it made a horn noise and then started up, or so i thought but wont go past the grey screen with the thing spinning at the bottom... and it just stays there for about 10mins before dying.

i just tryed the single user mode but it keeps repeating the following message:

single user mode shell: illegal insruction
singleusre boot -- fsck not done
root device is mounted read-only

if you want to make modifications to files:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
if you wish to boot the system:
exit


problem is it keeps repeating this and wont let me type in anything...

any ideas? is it completely dead?? been going crazy all day thanks

Follow this:

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

It should fix that problem you are having.
