I think my new MBP is running a bit too hot. It idles at around 58-62ºC with the fans spinning at 2000rpm. I set them at 4000 using smcFanControl and the temperatures drops drastically by 10 to 14º.

Under load, it easily gets up to 80º.

I've noticed that the new aluminum case gets very hot, just wondering if this is normal behaviour.

Oh btw, it's the 2.53 GHz/6MB MBP and I'm using the discreet GPU (9600M GT)

Mine spins at ~2000 rpm most of the time. Gets up to ~2600 during those 30GB Time Machine backups occasionally. Seems to be the norm with these. Mine gets warm, but my generation 1 MBP got downright painfully hot.

Well... the air conditioning is not working at my office now, and the **** thing is idling a 60º with the fans at 4000rpm. I'm burning my fingers.

One note to my post above: I switched GPU on my MBP from the 9600M GT to the 9400M and it runs about 120° to 130° Fahrenheit now.

Update: after a day running the 9400M GPU, my temps are staying between 100° and 110° Fahrenheit during casual surfing and email. Temps are around 120° during big TM backups, running Handbrake or just after XP bootup via Parallels. Fans are at ~2000 rpm's regardless of which GPU I use, though they spike to 2600 rpm's during Handbrake encodes. Seems fine to me.
