Hey, I've got an old apple tower, g4 500mhz, running 10.28
I like the computer, it works beautifully with my wacom, better pen movements than my emac running leopard. But photoshop doesnt work for some messed up operating system reason. So, should I try upgrading to leopard, which may cause some bad side effects or try linux or something else?... idk? :Shouting:

Hmmmmm...How much RAM do you have? If you have a gig, you'll be fine. 512 probably would be on the low side for OSX. As for 10.5, don't risk it. Upgrade to 10.4.x instead. It'll be worth it. As for linux, you could try it, but unless you know how to configure everything, installation will be a headache. If you're knowledgeable, try it out, but I still would recommend upgrading to 10.4.x.

10.5 Leopard will not install on a 500Mhz G4. I would go with 10.4 Tiger. Like the other poster asked, how much RAM does the G4 have?

If you install Linux, it really will not be a Mac as it's the OS that makes a Mac what it is what you like about the machine.

Tiger X.4 as the others suggest and max out the ram to 2GB PC100 4x512MB. Look at second hand sites such as eBay and Craiglist for a full retail version of Tiger. You need a black disc and do not buy the grey coloured model specific discs.
