+Burning DVD's

Hi All,
I have a MacPro with all kinds of memory. When I burn a CD; no problems, but when I try to burn a Memorex DVD +R I receive an error message saying "the drive is not recognized". Do I have to buy DVD-R to have them work?

I burn +rs.

option click on the Apple, click on System Profiler, then Disc Burning.

What does it say there?

when i open system preferences and cd dvd's it asks what do you want to do?
When this screen comes up when I am burning I just say ignore and then click on burn disk.

As stated earlier, go to the Apple menu (top left corner). Choose About This Mac -> More Info... (system profiler) -> Disc Burning:

You should see something like the following:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D:

Firmware Revision: AC08
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

You should be able to burn +r with no problem. What program are you using?

I do personally recommend -r, assuming you are using the disc for a video project and not data, as -r has a greater compatibility with a wider selection of drives.

As Dysfunction suggested your burner does not support DVD+R: See the line in red,

I have the same problem, well not the burning problem, but the reading of a DVD problem. When I open my system profiler I get the same readings as everyone else BUT at the bottom when it says

Media: No

I get that instead of the normal: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

What the heck does that mean? All three of my other macs say Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds but my Macbook Pro 2.2 says NO. It won't read a disc or let me install Leopard from the DVD. I am confused to say the least.

Is there anyone out there that can help me?

What the heck does that mean? Is my drive bad and my computer knows it? Or do I need a firmware update or am I out of my mind and crazy? Don't answer the last question, that's kind of obvious.
