I was told that I can delete all the fonts from the system/library/fonts and the machine would keep what is needed to run. Now when I restart the machine the screen is just blue with title bar at the top. Please help, thanks!

no, I have not tried that yet...I thought that the system wouldn't allow you to delete the 5-7 NEEDED fonts as it should just move the fonts back to the System/Library/Fonts folder. Am I wrong here?

you are correct. leopard should put them back.
I would still recommend the permission repair.
Repairing permissions should help you get your computer started though.

Did you just do a system update? sometimes after system updates the machine may stay at that blue screen a bit longer than ususal. have you just left it sit at that screen for more that 5 minutes?

no, this is on a Tiger machine not Leopard...the machine is running 10.4.11.

I shut the machine down after about 5 minutes of just staying blue.

i don't think tiger will automatically put the fonts back. you may have to do an archive and install and reinstall the system. this will keep all of your apps/settings.

To the OP:

Smackintosh is correct. Break out your Tiger install disks.... Don't know why you deleted the fonts in the first place. :(

Regards.
