So every now and then my Macbook Pro will randomly shut off despite having full battery life. It's not a dead battery that needs to be plugged in at all times. I was just watching a TV show on NBC.com and it shut off. When I tried to turn it back on it stayed on for about 2-3 seconds then shut off again. The next time it lasted about 3 minutes then shut off, all with still full battery.
Any possible explanation for this?

Your MBP may be overheating. Are the fans running? What's the core temperature at when it shuts down?

Regards.

I'll check the temperature next time it shuts off but that seems like a reasonable explanation. I have the istat widget that tells me all about my system and both fans are working fine so it might just be overheating. I set it on my bed sometimes and I'm sure the flanel sheets don't help my laptop temperature.
