• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have been playing with the notion of getting a new HD camcorder to replace my Sony MiniDV. I have read many negative post about HD camcorders because nothing seems to be compatible with Macs. I read where everyone advises to use MiniDV but I want to move ahead with technology not stay put with older technology. Now I not educated enough on Videography to make that assumption but HD seems to be the move to the future. How about HD MiniDV's? I have a budget of $13000

You'll want to be aware of stories like this and this from Macworld.

Also look for reviews. Again from MW, this one mentions how the reviewer could not use the highest setting of the reviewed camera.

I'm hoping to buy a new Mac Book 2.4GHz w/ 4 GB and get Final Cut Studio 2. I want to buy an HD camcorder with a hard drive, such as the Sony HDR-XR500V or Canon VIXIA HG21. Are these camcorder, via USB 2.0 connections going to put HD video files onto my computer in a way Final Cut Studio 2 can use them? Note too that Mac Books don't have firewire connections, nor do HDD camcorder use firewire at all (only miniDV camcorders use firewire).
