I swapped out my 5400 RPM HD for a 7200 RPM HD. I just wanted to see if it was normal for my HD to occasionally vibrate strongly enough for me to be able to feel it on the other side of my MBP.

The info is here. It stopped doing the whole vibrating thing for now, but it may be because I re-installed OSX. Could the problem have been bec I had cloned my previous drive to this one and my system was expecting a 5400 HD?

I don't think so. It just because the HDD is faster.

Kind of a side question. I have the june 2007 MBP and it seems like it is only capable of the 1.5 Gbps SATA. Is the new MBP 3.0 capable?

I don't know, know with the new install the HD, even while being taxed doesn't vibrate near as much as it did before even idling.

Yes, it's normal (to me at least). Swapped an OEM 250GB 5400 for a Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200 and get occasional vibration and a tad more noise at times. The performance gains make it a moot point to me. Think of it as cam lope LOL

well it looks like the crazy vibration was just a fluke as it has stopped. :)

I have read about others experience with upgrading the HD on the new MBP's. You may want to check to see how secure the new drive is and the retainer screws. The screws may need an adjustment to balance it out.
