CD recognition problem

On my Mac mini and my Mac book I intermittently have a problem with audio CDs. When I insert them The system starts to recognise them (they briefly appar on the desktop and in itunes) then they almost imediatley dissapear. to correct the problem I have to go into disk utility and remount them, this always works but is a pain to do. Strangely this does not happen all the time or with the same CDs. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution? I am running Mac OS X 10.5.5 and the latest version of itunes.

Are you running anything else at the same time? Parallels or anything similar?

No not running any other programs at all at the same time on either my Mac mini or when I do the same thing on my Macbook
