Problems opening .WMV files

I have a lot of various .wmv that have only recently began opening with TextEdit as the default application. I have flip4mac installed on my computer, and it is up to date, but I do not understand why I have to manually go through all these files and choose to open with Quicktime, and then save it to always do that. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Select a .wmv file and click "command + i" to open the info pane. About halfway down is the "Open with:" preference. Select the application you wish to use, then make sure to hit the button that says "Change all...". It may ask you to confirm this and enter an Admin password. Sometimes you need to log off and back on to make the change global. hope that helps.
