burning .avi to DVD using toast 9 bad scrambled picture

i am trying to burn .avi vids to dvd to watch on my tv but when i use toast the audio and menu is fine but the picture is all scrambled? i can successfully do it using idvd but you can fit so many more vids on a dvd using toast? anybody have any ideas? thanks in advance
