PowerBook G4 1.67 GHZ w/ 1 GB RAM & Dual Mac G5.
Greetings,

I tried searching for this, but the results never came up.

I've got a PowerPC Dual 1.8 GHz G5 with 1 GB of RAM. I am curious if I can upgrade to Leopard, what would be the benefits and would there be any "cons" to it with my system.

For some reason I thought Leopard was more so for the Intel based machines, but a bird told me otherwise.

I plan on purchasing more RAM for my machine, either going up to 4-8 GB depending on how many slots I have.

Looking forward to some of that sweet sweet knowledge that flows around these forums.

Peace,

The minimum requirement for leopard is an 867mhz G4, so your dual 1.8ghz G5 will have no problem at all running it. 1GB of RAM is also fine, but more memory will make for a smoother experience when running several applications. Go for 2 or 4GBs if possible.

Personally I think Leopard is better looking, slightly faster and has some neat features. Plus you get the latest software gizmos. Well worth the upgrade at this point.

Like Zoolook said, Leopard will work just fine on that Dual G5. I would also suggest upgrading to more RAM if you can especially if you do a lot of multitasking. I have 10.5.5 Leopard on an iMac G5 2.1Ghz (Single CPU of course) and it's great.

My 1.2 iBook G4 is running Leopard fantastically, so I am sure your G5 could run it just fine.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

I will be running Leopard soon, well hopefully. As well as a RAM upgrade.

Much appreciated.

It will run Leopard very nicely, especially if memory is booted up to at least 2GB.
