OSX Server login

Hey guys,
Im at work right now and I need to get the server down. I have the remote login and password but I dont know how to shut down the server remotely. Can I telnet into it? I was told by a friend to just pull the plug, but another told me that that might damage the system itself. I tried plugging in the monitor and keyboard but it wont recognize. I dont work with mac's at all so please help

does it atleast reconize the keyboard? if so command option shift eject will power the system down... if you keyboard has an eject on it.
