apparently, (according to Macworld Magazine about 9 months ago) one can network a mac running 10.5 and windows without any third party apps.!! i just encountered a thread in which nobody mentioned that option to the fellow that started the thread. thanks. Justin.

What are you talking about? It was possible to network Macs and Windows machines before 10.5, so what exactly are you referring to?

You can do this in OS9 in the Chooser Control Panel as well.

I was doing that very thing in 10.2.0 Jaguar. Sure it's even easier in 10.3, then even better in 10.4 but still it was done all the time. I had 25 systems networked XP, 2k 10.2 and it all worked perfectly.
