Publishing software

Hi everyone, I am new at this.
We have an iMac and my kids need to do some publishing for school. I could not find any software that came with the Mac and am looking for some advice on what I should get for them.
I do need to keep in mind that the kids will need to save it to their USB stick and use it with Microsoft Publisher also.
Can anyone give me some advice?

Howdy and welcome to the Mac world. Unfortunately, nothing on the Mac side (and very little on the Windows side) works with Publisher files.

For simple publishing needs, iWork 08 works very well. There many templates available for school projects - just do a Google search.
