Hi All,

I'm about to buy one of the new Macbook Pros to go with my iMac. I've been using Time Machine to back up the iMac and I'd like to simply do a restore from the latest backup onto the new laptop.

My question is: how can I do this while still preserving the new implementation of OS X that comes with the Macbook? Seems as though I'll need to restore the individual files & apps, rather than doing a complete system restore. Kind of a pain in the neck if true.

Have I got this right, or am I missing something obvious here?

When you get the new MBP, in the setup screen, use the Migration Assistant. From there choose Time Machine backup. Specify the date and time, and restore. *Should* work.

Or, do a backup of your user files using SuperDuper (review should be in my siggy), and then restore them.

Congrats on your future purchase of the MBP btw :)
