I use to have an HP printer installed/connected to my imac but I uninstalled it yet I still receive updates for the printer.

How do I stop this?

Can try going to /Library/Reciepts and looking for a reciept, although mine doesn't have one. Do a search in Spotlight for HP and see if it uninstalled all of it.

In addition to using Spotlight, try Finder > Cmd-F. I've found that it does a more thorough job than Spotlight in finding hidden files. For example, with Cmd-F, type .plist in the search field. You'll be presented with all the preference files, and you can search for any that have HP.

A search of my Mac HD > Library > Receipts shows HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg even though I've never used a HP device, so the receipt must natively be part of the OS.

There was an Apple update for HP printer drivers within the last week or so, probably just this. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks to all!!!

I checked the receipt folder on my HD and there was no HP, however, I did look into my update folder and found Hp Printer Drivers Update.dist and a folder that reads Packages.

Did this come with Imac prior to me installing an HP printer or is it something that was left behind after I uninstalled it? Is it something I can trash?

Look in the application and preferences folders and see if drivers are still installed. If so trash them.

Have you searched BOTH Library folders for Receipts? There's a Receipts folder in both Users > Library; and Mac HD > Library.

You can trash the .dist file - here's the info about it DIST File Extension - Open .DIST files

How do I do this?

Using Cmd-F in Finder, type .plist in the Search field. There are hundreds of preference files, so the job will take a while.
