Im jsut curious on how AirTunes works. Do you need an airport base station conencted through a cord or a wireless signal to the computer? Then the computer send the signal through the router and wirelessly to AirTunes thing that plugs into teh stereo? Do you need an Airport base or would any wireless router work.

You don't need any wireless router...all you need is an airport card and the airport express

Is airport express with airtunes (as shown here) just a thing that communicates with your wireless internet card in your mac or pc? So it goes from the airport card in the PC, through the air wirelessly to the airport express and airtunes thing? Thats it? Do you have to have an airport card in your PC? Or could you say use a D-Link wireless card to communicate with the airport express and airtunes thing? Why does it have a LAN port? It is also like a wireless router???

Thanks for the reply!

You should think of the Airport Express as a mini wireless router because that's what it is. So if you have a wireless card that can connect to a WiFi network, then that's all you need.

If you have broadband, you could actually connect that to your AirPort Express and use the Express as the wireless router for your internet as well.

Pretty cool. That answered my quesiotn. But one more thing, can a computer communicate with airportxpress and airtunes through any other wirelss card besides the Airport card? For example using a D-Link card to tell airtunes to play music onto a stereo.
