Hey Y'all,

I have some Sony Noise Cancelling headphones. It seems that a lot more sound comes out the left side than the right. What is up with this?

Assuming you've checked the balance in SysPrefs > Sound > Output, imbalance can be caused by a slightly dodgy speaker or audio plug.

Try twirling the cable plug where it goes into the audio out on your Mac, sometimes a bit of oxide builds up on the contacts (just don't have anything playing at the time).

Lastly, 1) spray a little CO contact cleaner (NOT WD40 or similar) on to a 3.5 mm dummy plug, and twirl that about in the audio out socket, and 2) twist your headphone plug lightly inside a piece of fine-grade emery paper, but wipe it clean with a paper tissue afterward.

It's also possible that the metal part to your plug for your head phones is worn out, I listen to a lot of music usually end up replacing head phones once a year.
