iMac won't start up

my mac boots up just fine but there is no display, screen is just dead black. I can acccess remotely my hard drive, and see all my files etc. The keyboard seems to work, caps light comes on and off and there is sound. Is as if everthing is working but there is no signal to display

Any ideas
