hey all,

not sure if this is a software or hardware problem. almost everytime i open system prefs, then click on sound, i get the black screen of death. anyone have any ideas why this would happen? i have an old m-audio 24/96 pci sound card installed. gonna try and remove that to see if its the problem. thanks in advance.

When you open the Sound prefs, OS X will try to initialise any installed audio devices. It looks as though the driver for the card or an issue with the card itself causes a Kernel panic during that process.
