External DVD with iDVD

I am considering the Lacie d2 dual layer DVD burner which comes with Toast 6. However, I really like the look of iDVD with the new iLife package. Anyone know if the Lacie will work with iDVD and vice/versa?

iDVD 4 does not work with external burners without a hack but iDVD 5 allows you to save your projects as a .dmg file which you can burn in Toast with you external burner just fine

I hope the latest version of iDVD will still work with the hack I have for iDVD 4.

You shouldn't need any hack since you can now save the project as a .dmg file and burn in toast right away

If I may, how do you burn the .dmg video fille with toast?

Actually now that I think of it you don't even need to use toast. You create the dmg file and you can burn it directly in Disk Utility

or patchburn will let you use your external dvd burner directly in idvd.

Patchburn works but I don't think I will use it once I get iDVD 5. I like the idea of saving it as an encoded .dmg file which I can archive on my external hard drive and burn very quickly whenever I need to burn it again

true, I wish I had idvd.
