Apple has released a security update on oct. 9. The response after installing is kinda scaring me a little. Most users say that their systems refuse to boot, apps crash, graphics card detection problems etc.

Anyone downloaded it & found it ok? Some reassurance would be nice. I just got a new macbook, dont want to screw it up :\

(Runnning 10.5.5 on white C2D 2.4ghz)

I have only installed the security update on one machine so far which is a Power PC iMac and all is fine. I will try my other Macs later and see what happens. I have not read of any issues so far myself.

The 10.5.5 security update besides updating some security issues, also installs a newer version of OpenGL. That may impact on some applications but most should be OK. The problems that I have seen seem to occur on the MacBook which has an integrated graphics chipset. MacBook Pro and the iMac which have dedicated graphics are OK. I have one application that I run on my MacBook which relies on OpenGL and that application is definitely broken. I'm waiting for the author to fix it.

Regards.

Confused - 10.5.5 has been around for a while now, so what do you mean by Apple have released security update on October 9?

10.5.5 messes up my iCal, so I haven't bothered until they fix it!!!

10.5.5. This is a security update and not a point update. The version will stay the same.

I just installed the update on my C2D 2.16Ghz Mac Mini. All went well. No issues at all to report.

Aside from a momentary blank screen (heart into mouth) no problems here.
