Newton 2000 need to connect to my Mac

I pulled my old Messagepad 2000 out of mothballs and want to use it as a wordprocessor than dump that to my Mac. Has anyone had experience with this? Would I need to get a USB adapter from Apple and even then will my Mac talk to the newton? thanks in advance. Lou
