So i got my referb imac checked the specs on what RAM i needed and got the according type and size (2x2GB DDR2)

when i install both sticks my imac does not turn on..

when i reinstall the 1GB stick it came with and leave 1 of the 2GB sticks it turns on says my memory is ok...
when i do a hardware test and acknowledges my current 3GB RAM with no issues...
i have swapped out both sticks and switched the slots they are loaded in only to get the same result.

in other words it will not turn on with both 2GB sticks, but it will with just one 2GB and the 1GB it came with

i just cant figure this out, any advice or help??

Okay, a check of Mactracker shows your iMac to be the mid-2007 model, is that right? The RAM specs are 4 Gb max (√) and the type as 200-pin PC2-5300 DDR2. Is that the type of RAM you purchased?

BTW - Mactracker lists a Firmware update for your model of iMac. Perhaps that may help your RAM upgrade situation.

With:
1. both slots appearing to be working okay, and
2. with a mix of 1 Gb and either of the 2 Gb sticks working okay
3. with either of the 2 Gb sticks working okay in either of the slots, and
4. your having swapped the 2 Gb sticks about in the two RAM slots;
I'd suggest a visit or call to an Apple service centre. There may be an issue with the logic board, hopefully not. Lastly, what brand of RAM did you buy?

i still have not been able to figure this out.....the only thing i can assume is that

1. the mem i bought is 800mhz not 667mhz(though it should still be compatible from the information i have)
2. even though every scan and my system recognizes the new ram it is not actually being used by the system, but the system thinks that it is

i am going to call apple support or ask the good ol folks at the apple store about it
