Love the new mixtape sharing services like 8tracks.com that stream music via your browser. But the downside is that they consume 20-40% of the CPU when streaming. That's enough to keep my MacBook Pro toasty warm. I don't remember this being nearly as resource-intensive on my PC. What gives?

I don't know about 8Tracks.com but I listen to Live365.com which likewise streams music through Safari or Firefox. I have not noticed an increase in CPU on my MacBook than on my Toshiba notebook. If you have not already done so, install SMCFanControl (free software) on your MBP and ramp up the fans when streaming music. That will keep the machine cooler.
