Can I connect direct

I have now got the airport, thanks, but it seems that I need to connect the itouch and macbook via a wireless internet link ? Can't I just use the airport on the macbook and the wi-fi on the itouch ??
Sorry if this is a really dumb question:[

sure you can, you just have to set up your airport to accept ad-hoc connections.
